One Hit Wonders:

Haisam Abu Samra

An independent comedy writer, with a past experience as a graphic design. Haisam’s only contribution to The Bulb has been his insightful, and funny, piece “The Egyptian Graphic Designer Dilemma,” in May 6, 2010.


Ibraheem Youssef

He obsesses about art direction, alignment, colors, cooking, design, folding, illustration, paper, printing, ping pong, type, and walking. His only contribution to Rolling Bulb has been Manazer #5 on May 30, 2011, but more of his work can be experienced on IbraheemYoussef.com


Doa Aly

After graduating from the Fine Arts Academy in 2001, Doa has worked in art and design as in intern in studios in both New York and Milan. Later, as an art director in Cairo, she developed a unique approach to ornamentation, and has rendered the body a central concern of her work. She is mainly interested in ideas relating to performance, growth, and identity. Rolling Bulb has republished a blog post by Aly titled No Time For Art?on June 30, 2011.

Mohammed Abdallah

Before becoming the Finance & Operations Manager at the Contemporary Image Collective in Cairo, Mohammed was Program Manager at Al Mawred Al Thaqafy. This was after his Art Management fellowship at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He has provided Rolling Bulb with an Arabic translation of Doa Aly’s “No Time For Art?” and has also written a detailed review of Laila Soliman’s and Ruud Gielens’ performance piece “Lessons in Revolting.”


Tarek Abdel-Kawi

An accomplished illustrator, Tarek has contributed to Rolling Bulb with a powerful Manazer #7 on Egypt’s national Stockholm Syndrome.


Sad Panda

He, she, or it is mostly known for being responsible for the Sad Panda appearing on walls across Cairo, but he/she/it also does other things, such as the chilling Manazer #8 published on July 11, 2011.

Islam Mohamed

Islam thinks, writes, points cameras at stuff, makes music, invents recipes, helps with art projects, manages stuff and blogs. He has heavily assisted with the realization of Rolling Bulb’s initiative “From Protesting To Policy-Making.”


Suzeeinthecity

She’s been blogging hardcore about Egypt’s new street-art scene in the making, and has been gracious enough to allow Rolling Bulb to republish her “Afternoon with Sad Panda” on July 11, 2011.


Shahinaz Nabeeh

After some time as Cultural Advisor and PA to Director of Cultural Affairs at the Culture Bureau of London, Shahinaz changed gears to become Editorial Associate at Cairo-based EniGma Magazine. She contributed to Rolling Bulb on July 13th with a personal account of “Surveying Tahrir.”


Sherif Adel

Sherif has contributed to Rolling Bulb with a tribute to Suez’s role in Egypt’s revolution in Manazer #9.


Carambolage

He is a Berlin-based art director, illustrator, and occasional photographer whose work can be found on caramkapp.tumblr.com. He’s contributed with an insightful view from Germany on “Civilization and the Cultural Explosion in Egypt.”

Blogs about Egyptian pop culture with a taste for nostalgia.
